# Get started with COPY

Pick a device. Add a friend. Talk. That’s the whole thing.

## Set up

Get COPY from the [App Store](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/copy-private-walkie-talkie/id6758922962) and add your name. It’s how your friends see you.

## Pick your first device

Choose the one that feels like yours, then hold to boot it up. You keep it, and you can [switch devices](https://getcopy.app/help/switch-devices) any time.

## Practice once

Channel 1 has a message from us. Tap to play it. Then Channel 2 shows up: Learn COPY. Hold the button, say something, let go, and you’ll hear yourself back. Nobody else hears it. COPY asks for the microphone the first time you hold.

To run it again, go to Settings, then Support, then **Replay Learn COPY**.

## Add a friend

Tap an empty channel and choose **A friend**. Send them the link. When they open it, you share that channel. [More on invites](https://getcopy.app/help/invite-a-friend), or [make a group](https://getcopy.app/help/make-a-group) instead.

## Talk

Turn the dial to their channel. Hold down. Talk. Let go. They hear it when they pick up their phone. Once, then it’s gone.

When they talk back, their channel shows how many are waiting, like “2 new.” Tap it to listen. [More on sending and listening](https://getcopy.app/help/send-and-listen).

## Save your recovery key

COPY has no accounts. If you lose your phone, 24 words bring your friends back. Tap the settings button in the top right of your COPY device, then Profile, then **Recovery Key**. [Why it matters](https://getcopy.app/help/recovery-key).
