# How COPY keeps things private

Encrypted, no accounts, and deleted once it’s heard.

Messages are end-to-end encrypted, and COPY’s server can’t listen to them. There are no accounts. Messages are deleted once they’re played.

## Encrypted before it leaves your phone

The key to each channel travels in the invite link, after the #, and COPY’s server never sees it.

## No accounts

No email, no phone number, no password. Your phone creates your identity, and your [recovery key](https://getcopy.app/help/recovery-key) is how you get it back.

## What the server holds

Encrypted messages until they’re played or expire, plus what it needs to deliver them: your display name, the channels you’re in, and a token for notifications. Analytics are first-party, with no message content and no advertising IDs. The [privacy policy](https://getcopy.app/privacy) has the full list.
